RICHMOND HEIGHTS, Fla A pair of Florida City teens have been charged after the reportedly got into a gunfight with guard during the robbery of a Richmond Heights' gas station Sunday night.
According to Miami-Dade police, Khambrel Bynum and Tedrick Monds, both 17, stormed into the gas station at SW 116th Avenue and Bethune Drive just before 9 p.m. and demanded money from the clerk.
During the robbery, the gas station's guard confronted them and police say that's when the shooting began.
"They shot multiple times at the security guard," said Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta. "The security guard returned fire multiple times also and obviously he struck one of the subjects."
Both teens then took off an undetermined amount of cash.
Zabaleta said a short time later they received a 911 call from a nearby residence about a person suffering a gunshot wound. Arriving officers were able to determine that Monds was one of the teens involved in the robbery. He was taken to a hospital and is listed as stable.
They were also able to catch up with his alleged partner in crime and take him into custody as well.
Both Bynum and Monds have been charged with use of a firearm during an armed robbery.
