GUN BATTLES INJURE TWO SECURITY OFFICERS

GUN BATTLES INJURE TWO SECURITY OFFICERS

Jeff Kiker - Monday, January 24, 2011

Atlanta Ga  Two gun battles within twenty fours hours have injured two nightclub security officers leaving one hanging on for life.

A shooting in the parking lot of a Vallejo California bar left one security guard and at least one patron injured police said.

Vallejo police responded to George's Den on the 100 block of Maple Street at about 11 p.m. following a drive-by shooting apparently connected to an earlier altercation at the bar, Sgt. Jeff Bassett said.

Two uniformed All Phase Security guards hired to patrol the business told police that several males were asked to leave the property after confronting a guard inside the bar, Bassett said.

The confrontation allegedly continued outside, where one security guard shot pepper spray into the face of one of three males as they surrounded the guards and threatened to "sucker-punch" one of them, Bassett said. The males were described as either Hispanic or Pacific Islander, he added.

Shortly afterward, a car described as a "newer" white Chevrolet Monte Carlo circled the parking lot before gunshots were reportedly fired from the passenger side of the vehicle, Bassett said.

A security guard returned fire with 10 rounds, Bassett said.

One guards was struck in the leg, and a patron was hit in the back in reportedly non-life-threatening wounds, Bassett said. A third person whose connection to the case was unclear showed up at a Vallejo hospital with a bullet wound to his shoulder, Bassett said.

Police continue to investigate the incident as a possible attempted homicide, he added.

A second shooting hours later and miles apart in Kansas City has left another security officer in critical condition after someone shot him in a drive by shooting after a crowd was dispersed in the parking lot of a nightclub.

Police are working on several leads but say the officer is listed in critical condition.

Another security officer returned gunfire but police do not know if anyone in the vehicle was injured.
