Federal Firearm Licenses

Regardless of the state in which you reside, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms handles all applications for Federal Firearms Licenses (FFL). The ATF also requires an investigator from the ATF field office to interview all applicants, and respective parties, applying for a license. Without a Federal Firearms License, you cannot sell, manufacture or trade firearms in North Carolina.

Make an effort to know who you are buying your weapon from and make sure they have a current license issued by the state. Not every dealer cares who they sell a weapon to or the buyer’s well being. They are only interested in "the sale" and completing the paperwork required by the state.
